Less than a tenth of people who could benefit from GLP-1 drugs including Wegovy can access them, states the World Health Organization as it releases its inaugural advice on the medications.

Weight-Loss Drug Scarcity
Even in the present most optimistic case, the manufacturing of GLP-1 therapies would only suffice for about 100 million people – less than 10% of those who need them, per the health organization.
The recommendation urges governments and firms to widen availability, via measures such as voluntary licensing.
A patent on semaglutide – the main ingredient of the drug Wegovy – is scheduled to end in a number of countries in 2026.
